The Museo Antropológico Padre Sebastián Englert is named for the priest who spent much of his life on the island. The Museum can be reached by walking a bit north from the archaeological site of Tahai and then cutting inland, or by taking the road north from the village. A sign points west to the Museum at an intersection. The displays change from time to time, but usually they include interesting maps, statue fragments, and objects of material culture. |

The "star" of the exhibit is the coral eye that was found in recent years, proving that the statues once had inlaid eyes.
The Museum also has a small collection of books for sale.
Near the offices of the Museum director is the Mulloy Library, dedicated to the memory of the great anthropologist who spent much of his life working on the island. He restored several of the sites, and his ashes are buried nearby, at Tahai. Creating the Mulloy Library has been one of the major efforts of the Easter Island Foundation. |
