It is a good idea to bring along a small medical kit with aspirin, cold tablets, insect repellant, Band-Aids, etc. There is a hospital on the island, but treatment can be sketchy. While Band-Aids can be bought at local stores, they are sold individually, one-at-a-time. Aspirin must be obtained from the hospital pharmacy. US dollars are accepted everywhere, without problem. Money exchange for all important currencies can be handled at the island's bank. Travelers going to the island will find Shawn McLaughlin's Complete Guide to Easter Island an invaluable resource. It is richly illustrated and has the latest maps, travel tips, and information on all the major sites, along with sections on history, culture, and language. For information on obtaining the book, send us an e-mail or check out our publications page. |
